Partial Hospitalization Program

Attending group therapy

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the perfect combination of the flexibility of outpatient rehab and the acuteness of inpatient rehab. It can also be an effective option for those not able to fully commit to inpatient rehab. It offers a shorter-term, but intensive treatment with scheduled hours every week.

One of our specialists can help educate you more on PHP and whether or not it’s the right program for you. We are here to guide you throughout the entire process.

For now, it’ll help you or a loved one to keep reading and understand the basics of PHP. The more you know, the more of an informed decision you can make when we discuss the different options together. Keep reading to learn more about PHP and how it can help you or a loved one on the road to recovery.

What Is A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?

A partial hospitalization program is a comprehensive, short-term clinical treatment program for those struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 19.7 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2017. Addiction is a serious concern in our country. Partial hospitalization is a step you can take in conquering this disease.

Partial hospitalization is a step down from inpatient hospitalization, but more intensive than outpatient rehabilitation. Patients are typically advised for PHPs when they are experiencing severe symptoms, but not severe enough for 24/7 supervision.

The goal of treatment is to improve the patient’s condition, as well as prevent or reduce inpatient hospitalization. This level of care is also known as a “step down” program for those clients who have completed a residential program. Those who choose partial hospitalization programs can live at home. However, they’re required to spend about three to five days per week at our facility.

Thankfully, there is hope for those who are dealing with drug addiction and/or mental health issues. Our approach to partial hospitalization is centered around tailoring treatment for each patient. Here at Granite Mountain Behavioral Health, we offer PHP to those who need it. We would be more than happy to help you or a loved one begin the road to recovery.

How Can A PHP Benefit Me?

PHPs can help you safely and smoothly recover from a mental health condition or addiction. Partial hospitalization programs are a great first step to take in recovering for the long term. We prioritize teaching you the skills necessary to independently continue the betterment of yourself even after you leave.

This treatment program is meant for individuals who benefit from structured programming, but do not require 24/7 supervision. There’s a variety of different forms of therapy and medical care available at our facility through PHP.

If you or a loved one is suffering from mental health issues, a partial hospitalization program can help. PHPs allow you to get better while maintaining more independence. Similar to an issue with drug addiction or alcoholism, PHPs can make a huge difference. Treatment is very structured, so you’ll be able to establish healthy routines in your life as well.

Mental Health Concerns

Partial hospitalization programs oftentimes incorporate dual-diagnosis treatment. Dual diagnosis is the bridge between addiction and a mental health disorder. When struggling with addiction, the physical aspect is only part of the equation. It is important to recognize the underlying issues and triggers that addiction may have.

For example, one may turn to alcohol to hide their depression. Or in another instance, turn to a drug like cocaine to feel confident in social situations. Whatever the case is, addiction often goes hand in hand with mental health disorders.

That’s why we provide dual-diagnosis treatment at our facility. The hardships that go along with dual diagnosis may present themselves in all areas of that individual’s life. However, there are a variety of ways to conquer them.

There is one-on-one therapy, group therapy, support groups, family programs, and more. These different approaches help individuals become encouraged and empowered throughout their recovery journey.

At our facility, everyone engaging in dual diagnosis treatment will be assigned a case manager and a therapist. We offer addiction counseling, individual and group therapy, and dual diagnosis education. There will also be life-skills coaching centered on helping patients continue their recovery journey after treatment.

Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization programs lie right in between inpatient and outpatient rehab. The advantages of a partial hospitalization program include aspects of both forms of treatment, such as:

  • Thorough therapy
  • Wide access to medical care
  • Ongoing mental health care
  • Consistent meetings

More specifically, partial hospitalization programs also offer:

  • Program hours: The hours of partial hospitalization can range depending on the individual. However, the structure of the days and weeks is made to set you or a loved one up for success. The person needs to recognize the effort that goes into-long term sobriety after experiencing addiction.
  • Organized treatment schedule: You can compare a partial hospitalization program to taking classes at college. Throughout the “semester”, you are expected to go to your classes each week at their scheduled days and times. Similarly, PHPs require that same dedication.
  • Betters odds of a sustainable and long-term recovery: If you or a loved one chooses a PHP as a continuum to intensive treatment, the chances of recovery increase. If partial hospitalization is treated as the main option, it can still help tremendously in a successful recovery.

Are You A Good Candidate For A Partial Hospitalization Program?

Partial hospitalization programs offer many benefits to those seeking treatment and long-term sobriety.

However, those who benefit the most:

  • Show a desire to begin treatment and participate in therapy
  • Have completed, or are willing to complete a detox process
  • Are transitioning from residential treatment or inpatient hospitalization
  • Have a solid housing, social support, and community situation
  • Do not meet requirements for an inpatient hospitalization, but still require intensive treatment
  • Don’t have intense medical treatment needs
  • Qualify for dual-diagnosis treatment

Why Rehabilitation Is Important?

Partial hospitalization programs aim to patients recover in a flexible, yet intensive setting. No matter the addiction, there is always hope and the potential to get better. Rehab gives those struggling with addiction the opportunity to not only recover but grow from it as well.

Rehab provides a structured program that covers physical, mental, and emotional concerns. It really allows the individual affected to target all parts of the addiction. Here at Granite Mountain Health, we want to help you become the best version of yourself you can be.

Another great perk when it comes to rehabilitation is the amenities our facility offers. We believe in integrating the body and mind. When your body is stimulated through physical activity, your mind benefits as well. Our center offers a wide range of sporting activities focused on building the body and mind together.

Emotional Benefits Of A Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program offers emotional support through therapy as well as the rehab community itself. We can’t emphasize enough how much we value our community and staff. To us, there is no such thing as an isolated recovery journey. We believe in supporting each other through positivity, empathy, and equal treatment.

At our facility, everyone is equal. From staff to patients, we are all in this together. The sense of community has a tremendous power in motivating somebody to achieve long-term sobriety. Whether it’s you or a loved one battling addiction, we’re here throughout the entire process.

One’s emotional well-being is just as important as their physical state. Although medical care is equally as important, the mental and emotional aspects of recovery need to be taken seriously.

Physical Benefits Of A Partial Hospitalization Program

A detox may be required as part of the partial hospitalization program. Detoxing allows the body to rid itself of the harmful chemicals accumulated during substance use. Attempting to detox on your own is not only unsafe, but it can also end up becoming fatal.

In addition, detox can also present one with a mental challenge to work through. Becoming dependent on a substance affects your body physically, as well as your mind. However, a detox can most certainly help you break that toxic cycle.

Trained medical staff will help you detox safely. If any health issues or discomfort come up, they’ll be there to help you.

Life After After A Partial Hospitalization Program

The goal of partial hospitalization is to set you or a loved one up for long-term sobriety. We’ll help you no longer depend on the substance that’s hurting you. Even after you no longer have the toxins in your body, there is still a mental challenge to overcome. We are inclined to become attached to our habits. When these habits are destructive; that’s where the issue lies.

Habits of addiction have the potential to cause a lot of pain in our lives. Rehab programs help you build a skillset to smoothly transition into society. Aside from the treatment itself, you’ll learn how to continue long-term sobriety even after the program.

It’s important to remember that there are a lot of fulfilling activities you can participate in. Becoming sober will allow you to realize how much joy there is to experience in life.

You can take up a new hobby like fitness or art. You’ll be able to reconnect with those that matter to you and even form new connections. Finally being able to get a career and do something you love is another incredible route you can take. The options are limitless.

Support = Success

Those who suffer from addiction can be so used to negative feedback that it just goes right past them. Nor, does it guide them towards actual beneficial change.

We have noticed that recovery is achieved through an intentional combination of biological support and neuro-regeneration. Combine that with a community of truly caring, trained & certified professionals, and amazing things can happen.

The recognition “this can’t be done alone”… community, commitment, connection, and purpose… needs to be the foundation for transformation.
